betterment of our community"
The purpose of the GFWC Brown Deer Junior Woman's Club is to bring together a group of women to work toward the betterment of their community by promoting its civic, cultural, educational, and social welfare.
We are members of the General Federation of Woman's Clubs (GFWC) established in 1890. The GFWC is an international organization with over 10 million members in 30 countries. Over the years the GFWC has grown into one of the largest organizations of volunteer women nationwide with the motto of "Unity in Diversity".
In March of 1968, a group of women started the groundwork for the club. On April 22, 1968, a Charter Banquet was held. Incorporation of the club took place in September, 1972.
A library was established by the Brown Deer Juniors in the Village in September of 1969. After two moves, it is permanently at home in a building located at Bradley and 55th Streets in Brown Deer. The Juniors continue to support the Library with annual contributions.
Membership is open to all women of the Brown Deer area who share an interest in community service and are willing to actively support the goals of the club. Prospective members attend an introductory gathering at which time the club's purposes are
explained and are encouraged to attend at least one general meeting. Formal induction of new members takes place twice a year.
