Poetry and Short Story Writing Contest

Every year the Brown Deer Junior Woman’s Club sponsors a youth writing contest. The contest seeks to provide an avenue for Brown Deer community, school-age youth to freely express themselves and draw upon their experiences through writing.

This contest is open to all youth who are interested in writing short stories and poetry. Winners of the local contest in both poetry and short story categories move on to a state-wide contest.

2026 Contest Results

The 2026 Short Story Contest was co-sponsored by Brown Deer Junior Woman’s Club and the Brown Deer Public Library. This change was initiated to expand the writing contest to more students. The library does programming for local home schooled students.

Families and their students attended the awards ceremony on May 12. Such a positive and celebratory event for all to enjoy!
