Our Stories 

The Fisher House Shuttle is a new hands-on project for the GFWC Brown Deer Junior Woman's Club developed by the Military Projects committee.  The Milwaukee Fisher House is a home away from home for families of Veterans receiving care at the Milwaukee VA Medical Center.  It provides free lodging to families just a few blocks from the VA.

In early 2025, committee members contacted Brian Kennedy of Kurt Schulz Delicatessen and Pastry Shoppe to discuss a possible collaboration.  When the store closes on Saturday afternoon, Brian donates the remaining deli and pastry items to several organizations, including the North Shore Fire Department.  Brian was happy to donate items to Milwaukee Fisher House if the Club was willing to deliver them. And the Fisher House Shuttle was born.   

Fisher House Shuttle runs begin at Kurt Schulz's.  It's always a good idea to enjoy a delicious pastry (half off on Saturdays after 2PM!) while an employee loads the car.  Our volunteer club members make their way to the Milwaukee VA grounds and deliver the containers to the Fisher House.  They are always appreciative of the donations.  

Sometimes a Brown Deer Junior goes above and beyond.  One member deadheaded all of the plants on the front porch during a recent trip.  It is meaningful to help those who have done so much for us.
